Vaccine Wars is a 2023
Indian Hindi medical drama film directed by Vivek Agnihotri and produced by
Pallavi Joshi. It is a fictional recreation of the development of Covaxin
during the coronavirus pandemic in India and highlights the efforts of the
scientists involved in its development. The film stars Nana Patekar, Pallavi
Joshi, Raima Sen, Anupam Kher, Girija Oak, Nivedita Bhattacharya, Saptami Gowda
and Mohan Kapoor.

The film
adaptation was announced in November 2022, with the final schedule starting in
June 2023 and filming finishing on August 13, 2023.
Release
Theatrical
The theatrical release date was announced through a teaser on India's
77th Independence Day. The film will be released on September 28, 2023.
Previously, he was scheduled to be released on August 15, 2023, and then on
October 24, 2023. It will be released in 11 Indian languages including Hindi,
English, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Punjabi, Malayalam, Gujarati
and Bhojpuri.
The official trailer was released on his September 12, 2023. 'Vaccine
War' is being touted as 'India's first bioscience film'. The film was released
in theaters on September 28, 2023.
Reception
Critical reception
"The Vaccine War" garnered combined reviews, with Mudit Bhatnagar of Times Now score it 3.5/5, praising its mixture of technological know-how and emotion.
Reviewing the movie, Shalini Langer of The Indian Express rated the movie with 2.5 out of 5 stars and wrote "Vivek Agnihotri`s devotion to his subject – with glaringly the government's complete cooperation and access – veers the movie regularly in the direction of the appearance and sense of a public carrier broadcast".
Zinia Bandyopadhyay of India Today rated the movie with 2.5 out of five stars and wrote "looking the movie may supply the impact that the whole enterprise made it their assignment to undermine the vaccine and the committed scientists at the back of it."
Renuka Vyavahare of The Times of India rated the movie with 2.5 out of five stars and wrote "Nana Patekar is extraordinary however the movie reduces itself to being a central authority mouthpiece parading as a scientific drama."
Venkat Arikatla of Greatandhra gave a score of 1.5 out of 5,
calling it an overdose of propagandist torture. He stated, what the movie does
is malign the ones newshounds who rightly wondered the ruling party's grand
claims of being able to generating the vaccine.
Box office
According to a report in India Today, the 'Vaccine War' failed to cross 1 crore Indian Rupees mark on the first day, collecting only Rs 0.85 Indian rupees. According to initial estimates, the film faced challenges on its second day as well and is believed to have collected a similar box office collection of Rs 8.5 crore.
The film's
total revenue is estimated to be around Rs 1.7 billion. “Vaccine War” recorded
an overall Hindi audience rating of 11.77%. Times Now published a similar
report, adding that based on the numbers, the film is unlikely to see any
significant growth or upside at the weekend box office.
