Google is updating how first-party cookies are managed in AdSense accounts. These changes aim to simplify cookie settings and improve access to third-party demand sources, which can potentially increase ad revenue for publishers.
What’s Changing?
Previously, AdSense users had separate controls for "first-party cookies" and "first-party cookies for personalization." Now, these are combined into one control, meaning when you enable this new setting, it will automatically apply both standard first-party cookies and those used for personalization. This adjustment is meant to make the setup smoother, keeping your existing personalization settings to make the transition as easy as possible.
Expanded Sharing with Authorized Buyers
Currently, AdSense shares first-party cookies with Google ad sources like Google Ads and Display & Video 360. But starting on or after December 4, 2024, this sharing will expand to include Google’s Authorized Buyers program. However, this change will exclude users in certain regions, like the EEA, Switzerland, the UK, and California.
If you’re already using first-party cookies for personalization, this new sharing setting with Authorized Buyers will automatically be turned on. If you’re using standard first-party cookies without personalization, this feature will remain off by default.
For detailed information about these cookie settings or to update your preferences, AdSense users are encouraged to check their ad serving settings.
